Henrik Ibsen wrote Ghosts in 1881 and watched it get banned across Scandinavia — too much syphilis, too much hypocrisy, too much truth about what respectable families bury. Vrikolakes plays at Theatro Radar in Neos Kosmos on 17 April 2026 at 21:00, directed by and starring Anastasia Papastathi as Mrs. Alving, now in its second year.
Papastathi adapts Ibsen's text into 120 minutes with one intermission, stripping the Victorian drawing room to its load-bearing walls: inherited guilt, institutional silence, a mother who arrives at honesty too late. The five-person cast includes Nektarios Farmakis as Oswald and Theodoros Skourtas as Pastor Manders.
If you want Ibsen as museum piece, this production treats the material as present tense. But if you want a family unraveling one suppressed truth at a time, Papastathi has had two years to sharpen the knife.
Pytheos 93, Neos Kosmos, directly opposite Agios Ioannis metro. Tickets EUR 18, EUR 15 reduced, through more.com.
Ibsen wrote these ghosts in 1881. They have not left the room.
