In Detail

Barbara Kruger: Untitled (Pride and Contempt)

ΚΠΙΣΝ · Tuesday 28 April 2026 · Free

A 90-meter text mural wraps the façade of the National Library of Greece, flanked by installations running both banks of the SNFCC Canal. Barbara Kruger has translated her vocabulary of power, belief, and public language into Greek for the first time — thirteen site-specific works commissioned by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for the cultural center's outdoor spaces. This is Kruger's first solo exhibition in Greece, curated by Katerina Stathopoulou.

Έκθεση φωτογραφίας | Μαζί, Ορατές

ΚΠΙΣΝ · Tuesday 11 August 2026 · Free

Twelve women photographers hang outdoors on the perimeter of Stavros Niarchos Park. Έκθεση φωτογραφίας: ΜΑΖΙ, ΟΡΑΤΕΣ — Together, Visible — is not a gallery show: the MOMUS–Museum of Photography Thessaloniki has taken work by twelve women photographers from its permanent collection and mounted it in the open along the park's edge at the SNFCC (ΚΠΙΣΝ), where you meet it mid-stride, between the runners and the stroller traffic. Curated by Antonis Vlachos and Maria Kechagoglou as part of the WOW — Women of the World Athens 2026 festival, the selection moves through identity, memory, the body, social roles, migration, visibility and belonging.

Lockbird

Cantina Social · Wednesday 12 August 2026 · Free

Lockbird returns to Cantina Social on Wednesday 12 August from 21:00 — an Athens selector whose night at this bar passed the ten-year mark in 2025. Lockbird's range is the draw: house and Italo disco folded into retro pop and electro, records played early and unhurried rather than aimed at a peak. Entry is open. The Leokoriou door in Psyri carries no sign — follow the alley to the garden of mismatched tables, where the crowd settles in over deliberately cheap drinks.

Kasia

Bolivar · Thursday 13 August 2026 · €15

Kasia learned drums before decks, and the sets show it: melodic techno built from the percussion outward, grooves that land like a kit under synths. The Miami-based, Polish-rooted producer plays Bolivar — the beach club on the sand at Akti tou Iliou, Alimos — on 13 August 2026, one night only, a Thursday under the Mayans party banner. The room hosted Tale Of Us and Sven Väth in 2025; local-scale nights like this one run cheaper and looser. If you need a sealed dark room, stay in town — if you want techno with sea air, Kasia is the argument.

Sensory Friendly προβολή | Park Your Cinema: Τραγουδώντας στη βροχή (1952)

ΚΠΙΣΝ · Friday 14 August 2026 · Free

The volume comes down from the start, the space never goes fully dark, and no one turns to shush you if you stand, walk the perimeter, or talk through a scene. This is a Sensory Friendly screening: an open-air showing of Singin' in the Rain built for people on the autism spectrum and anyone for whom a standard cinema — loud, dark, fixed in place — is more barrier than pleasure. Singin' in the Rain (1952), directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, is set in 1927 Hollywood at the moment silent pictures gave way to sound, as a studio scrambles to turn a silent romance into a talkie.

Kevin de Vries I Sat Aug 15

Bolivar · Saturday 15 August 2026 · €15

On Dekapentavgoustos itself — the national holiday when most of Athens empties toward the islands — Kevin de Vries arrives at Bolivar for a Blend Athens night on the Alimos terrace. The German DJ broke through with Cocoon and Drumcode releases and now holds a place inside the Afterlife stable, where his melodic techno builds trance-shaped tension through long, escalating arcs.

Rave Ritual

2ten · Saturday 15 August 2026 · €9

Rave Ritual books the Saturday of the 15 August weekend at 2ten, the basement techno room at Ermou 135 in Thiseio, with a billing that starts one minute before midnight. The date is the point. Dekapentavgoustos empties Athens for the islands and the villages, and for that one night the rooms still open play to whoever stayed behind — a thinner, more deliberate crowd than an August Saturday draws. 2ten programmes techno and almost nothing else, in a low central basement rather than a coastal terrace, with entry through Resident Advisor.

Mayans with David Morales I Thu Aug 20

Bolivar · Thursday 20 August 2026 · €15

Few names in house music carry the catalog David Morales carries — Grammy-winning production credits and remixes for Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, U2, Madonna, and Whitney Houston that helped define how a vocal house record breathed through the 1990s. On 20 August he plays Mayans, Bolivar's Thursday format on the Alimos terrace before the weekend headliners arrive. Why this slot matters: Morales is foundational repertoire rather than current-cycle programming, and the Thursday format gives him hours rather than a festival-length window in which to work. The Alimos coast keeps Bolivar off the metro grid — a taxi from central Athens is the standard arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's on in Athens, Greece in August 2026?

August is a strong month across categories in Athens, Greece. Theater is at full season — over 150 stages running simultaneously, from the National Theatre to small independent venues in Kypseli and Metaxourgeio. Is August a good time to visit Athens, Greece for cultural events?

Yes — August is one of the better months for cultural programming in Athens. The indoor season is still running at full capacity before venues start closing for summer. Which events in Athens, Greece need advance booking?

Major international concerts, headline performances at the Megaron Mousikis, and popular theater runs at venues like the National Theatre or Pallas should be booked at least a week in advance — often more.
