A former FIAT factory on Falirou Street now holds Chekhov's artists, lovers, and failures. O Glaros (The Seagull) plays at ΦΙΑΤ in Koukaki, directed by Giorgos Valaris with Katerina Didaskalou as Arkadina — the actress who cannot see past her own spotlight long enough to notice her son's work or his pain.
Valaris runs the production at ninety minutes, stripped to the tensions Chekhov built between people who want to create and the people who stand in their way. The industrial shell of the space gives the play's drawing-room claustrophobia a different register.
If you want period-costume Chekhov with measured pacing, this is a contemporary reading in a raw industrial space. But if you want the play's questions about art and ego delivered without padding, Valaris and Didaskalou have the material and the room for it.
Entrance from Syngrou 114, two minutes from Syngrou-Fix metro. Tickets EUR 25, EUR 20 reduced, through more.com.
Ninety minutes in a factory where Chekhov's artists can hear their own damage echo.
