Ekeinos pou eklepse ti mera & plirose ti nyhta (He Who Stole the Day & Paid the Night) is a theater production at Theatro Vasilakou in Kerameikos, Athens, on 4 March 2026. A bank cashier pockets a fortune and walks into the city looking for a life worth the price.
Georg Kaiser wrote the expressionist original in 1912 — a man who embezzles from his employer and spends a single night chasing meaning through sport, cabaret, and religion, finding none. Director Thoma Moschopoulos stages the adaptation with Orpheas Avgoustidis as the cashier and Evgenia Samara shifting between every woman he encounters. Scenography and video by Vasilis Papatsarouchas. Music by Dimos Vrygas. Eighty-five minutes, no interval.
If you want tidy resolution, Kaiser does not provide one. If you want expressionism that trades period stiffness for dark comedy, Moschopoulos has been doing this for two decades.
Profiti Daniil 3-5, off Plateon Street. Kerameikos metro, four minutes. Wednesdays and Sundays 20:00, Thursday through Saturday 21:00. Tickets from EUR 15.
The cashier's night ends where yours begins.
