Giorgos Papageorgiou plays everyone: Winston Smith, his interrogators, the voices behind the telescreen. Four musicians sit on stage with him, playing Alexandros-Drakos Ktistakis' score live as the surveillance tightens. His staging of George Orwell's 1984 returns to the Θέατρο Δίπυλον for a second season from Monday 12 October 2026, settling into Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:00 — a calmer rhythm than the first run, which was playing twice a night on Saturdays and Sundays. The adaptation runs 90 minutes straight through.
If you want dystopia as ensemble spectacle, this is the opposite: one body, four instruments, and Room 101 at conversational distance. But if you want 1984 carried by one performer and four bows, Papageorgiou does it two nights a week.
