Shakespeare wrote Hamlet in 1600. Heiner Muller disassembled it in 1977. Sofia Antoniou puts both on the same stage at Theatro Poreia and runs them simultaneously — a play inside a play inside a machine that refuses to stop.
Antoniou layers Shakespeare's plot against Muller's five dense scenes of post-war European collapse. The result runs 120 minutes without intermission.
Theatro Poreia draws the audience that reads the source texts before arrival and argues about them afterward in the bars around Plateia Victorias.
Hamlet asks whether to act. Muller asks whether action still means anything after the twentieth century dismantled the stage it stood on. Antoniou holds both questions open for two hours.
If you want a clear revenge narrative with a tidy fifth act, Shakespeare alone provides that. But if you want to watch one play eat another alive, this staging does not flinch.
Theatro Poreia is at Trikorfon 3-5, near Victoria metro. 19 April 2026 at 21:00. Tickets from 15 EUR through more.com.
Two texts, four centuries apart, no intermission to recover between them.
