The Journey of Sofia through the 4 Seasons is a sensory theater piece for babies and toddlers aged ten months to two and a half years at Vafeio-Lakis Karalis in Botanikos, running Saturdays at 11:00. A performer crouches to floor level, opens a bright umbrella, and forty small hands reach forward before a single word is spoken.
Written and performed by Margarita Kastrinou, the production works at body level rather than stage level. Sofia discovers a magical umbrella that carries her through the four seasons — spring blooms with fabric flowers, summer arrives in warm light, autumn scatters paper leaves across the floor, and winter whispers with drifting snowflakes from above. Each season brings new textures to touch and sounds to follow. Music by M. Boniatis shifts the room's temperature without words, and the children respond to rhythm before they respond to narrative. The room runs at toddler pace: forty-five minutes, no seats required, mess encouraged.
If your child needs a dark quiet room to focus, this is bright and tactile and loud with participation. If they learn by grabbing everything within reach, the show is designed for exactly that.
Vafeio is at Agiou Orous 16, a five-minute walk from Kerameikos metro. Family ticket covers two adults and one child for twenty-five euros; individual tickets ten euros through more.com. Arrive a few minutes early — the room is small and floor spots go first.
Most children's theater asks toddlers to sit and watch. This one asks them to stand up and touch.
