Twenty-three animal-welfare groups set up side by side along the Canal at the SNFCC (ΚΠΙΣΝ) on Sunday 4 October 2026, World Animal Day, for Open Agora: Animals, held for the first time as the centre gives an Open Agora over to animals.
**What it is.** Open Agora is the SNFCC's recurring open market for non-profit, volunteer and activist organisations, with earlier editions themed on the environment, on children and family, and on health and disability. It works on two levels: a meeting point where the public talks with the groups doing the work, and a market where those groups sell products to fund their cause. This edition centres on the bond between people and animals, from 09:00 to 19:00.
**Who is there.** The list mixes rescue, adoption, protection and education: Stray.gr, Nine Lives Greece, Dogs' Voice, Spot a Stray, Liberty Guide Dogs and The Bee Camp, plus animal-welfare associations from Palaio Faliro, Kallithea, Markopoulo, Marathon and Chaidari-Egaleo. The crowd it speaks to is anyone who fosters, volunteers or is weighing an adoption.
If you want a curated gallery visit, Open Agora: Animals is a working market of stalls and conversations. But if you want to meet the people behind Athens-area rescues in one place, this is the day.
Admission is open. The stalls stand outdoors along the Canal rather than inside the buildings, and the same Sunday the SNFCC hosts the Penny Marathon for its eighth year. There is no metro stop: take the free SNFCC shuttle from Syntagma via Syngrou-Fix, or the tram.
It is one Sunday, morning to evening, and then the stalls fold up.
