The doorbell rings and nobody is at the door; it rings again. Eugène Ionesco's Η φαλακρή τραγουδίστρια — the anti-play that premiered in 1950 to Paris walkouts — comes to Theatro Alkmini in Petralona from 20 to 23 July 2026, in Marilena Katranidou's staging, selected for the SYSTEMA programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival after its winter run at Theatro Amalia. Two English couples, a maid and a fire chief trade impeccable small talk until logic starts manufacturing its own nonsense.
Sam Morril live in Athens
Sam Morril makes his Athens debut at Theatro Akropol on 2 September 2026 — a single evening, performed in English. The New York stand-up trades in dry, dark, tightly written one-liners; his 2022 hour Same Time Tomorrow, filmed in Chicago, streams on Netflix. This Akropol show is his first date in Greece. Morril favors engineered jokes over crowd work — short, sharp setups, deadpan delivery, no physical comedy to hide behind.
ΤΖΟΝΙ ΜΠΛΕ 2ος Χρόνος
Three old friends descend into a Nea Ionia basement for whiskey and catching up, and a game of truth-or-dare tips the night into a thriller. ΤΖΟΝΙ ΜΠΛΕ is a comedy-mystery written and directed by Giorgis Tsouris, the Horn Award-winning actor, who performs it alongside Iosif Iosifidis, Manos Kazamias, Valia Papakonstantinou and Stratis Chatzistamatiou — 90 minutes on fatherhood, patriarchy and what passes for masculinity in today's Greece. The first season at the Άνεσις ran to 150 consecutive sold-out performances; 30 September 2026 is the premiere of the second.
Ένας υπηρέτης, δύο αφεντικά
One perpetually hungry servant takes a job with two different masters on the same day, then spends the rest of the afternoon sprinting between them so neither discovers the other. That engine drives Ένας υπηρέτης, δύο αφεντικά, Richard Bean's contemporary British rewrite of Carlo Goldoni's commedia dell'arte classic, here directed and translated by Thanos Tokakis. Giorgos Chrysostomou returns to comedy in the central role, with Grigoria Metheniti, Giannis Kapeleris, Argyris Gkaganis, Lydia Stefou and Nikos Iatrou.
ΕΝΑΣ ΥΠΗΡΕΤΗΣ , ΔΥΟ ΑΦΕΝΤΙΚΑ
Richard Bean took Carlo Goldoni's 1746 commedia dell'arte farce, moved it to 1960s Brighton, and turned it into one of the modern British stage's biggest comedies. That play, Ένας υπηρέτης, δύο αφεντικά, opens at Ilisia on 3 October 2026, directed and translated by Thanos Tokakis. The premise survives every update: a starving servant secretly works for two bosses at once and has to keep them apart.
Θεόφιλος Sold
Theofilos Hatzimichail painted Greece onto walls and shop shutters for a few coins and a meal — a self-taught folk artist mocked in his lifetime and canonised after it. «Theofilos Sold», written by Samson Raka and directed by Olia Lazaridou, turns that life into a tragicomedy for all ages, borrowing the grammar of folk performance and circus.

An actor picks up a brush and becomes Theofilos Hatzimichail — the self-taught painter who covered Lesvos and mainland walls in folk scenes for bread and small change, ridiculed alive and revered dead. That transformation drives «Theofilos Sold», a tragicomedy for all ages by Samson Raka, directed by Olia Lazaridou, drawing on folk-performance and circus craft.
Ο ΕΒΡΟΣ ΑΠΕΝΑΝΤΙ
Four broke Greeks, clinging to the bottom rung of a prosperity that left them behind, find their fragile routine upended when a Kurdish refugee turns up among them. From that collision «O Evros Apenanti» pulls its racism, its alienation, and its hard laughs.
