Superbacana

Superbacana is a live concert at Theatre of the No near Kotzia Square, Athens, on 5 March 2026. The room holds a hundred people and the brass hits your face before the rhythm section catches up.

Jef Maarawi — born in Sao Paulo, raised in Athens, three solo albums on Inner Ear Records — fronts a five-piece that reworks covers through samba, reggae, and soul-funk. You feel the groove in the floorboards. The band treats familiar songs as raw material, rearranging them until they sound like they grew up in a different city — Tropicalia and Motown pressed into the same set.

If you want quiet listening, this room runs louder than its size suggests. If you want groove music at close range from a band whose references span continents, Superbacana is where São Paulo meets Athinas Street.
