Leonarnta is a theater production at Dimotiko Theatro Peiraia in Piraeus, Athens, on 17 April 2026. In 1939, in the town of Correggio, a woman named Leonarda Cianciulli murdered three neighbors and rendered their bodies into soap — convinced the sacrifices would protect her son from conscription in the coming war.
G. Kalogeropulos directs and performs alongside V. Mandyli, M. Michailidou, and D. Grigoriadis in an eighty-minute production that traces Cianciulli's path from superstition to methodical violence. The story is documented history, not invention — Cianciulli corrected the prosecution's account at her own trial.
If you want comfortable entertainment, a play about a woman who turned murder into domestic chemistry is not that. But if true crime told through theater interests you, the source material here is stranger than any fiction.
Dimotiko Theatro Peiraia is at Iroon Polytechneiou 32, a two-minute walk from Dimotiko Theatro metro. Tickets €5–15 through more.com. Curtain at 20:30.
Six performances through 26 April to acquaint yourself with the soapmaker of Correggio.
