Περιγραφή στα Αγγλικά
Kara-Cartoon is a shadow musical for children at the Kokkali Space in Megaron Mousikis, Ampelokipoi, running Saturdays through April 4, 2026. The white screen goes up, the lights drop, and oversized shadow figures start moving to a live band playing three metres away.
Ilias Karellas — one of Athens' most prolific shadow puppeteers, with years of collaborations at the Megaron and the Athens Epidaurus Festival — takes the Karagiozis tradition and crashes it into the world of comics, memes, and screens that his young audience already inhabits. The score comes from Burger Project performing live on stage, their genre-crossing energy turning each scene change into a musical reset.
The room fills with families who know the Megaron's children's programming and trust the production values. Kids shout back at the screen. Parents who grew up watching Karagiozis in neighbourhood squares hear something familiar underneath the new layers.
If you want a quiet, sit-still-and-watch theater experience, seventy minutes of live music and interactive shadow puppetry will test that expectation. But if you want your five-year-old bouncing in their seat while a two-hundred-year-old art form meets a live band, this is the room.
Megaron Mousikis is directly above Megaro Moussikis metro. Show at 17:30, seventy minutes without intermission. Tickets are twelve euros — one of the most affordable entries in the Megaron's season. Arrive early enough to let kids explore the foyer.
A shadow puppet tradition that predates cinema, performed live with a band that started by recording an album in an empty Athens restaurant — both doing what they do best in a hall built for exactly this.
