Περιγραφή στα Αγγλικά
A high-court judge feels a dull pain in his side, and over eighty-five uninterrupted minutes it dismantles everything he believed his respectable life was worth. Tolstoy drew "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" (1886) from a real case — a judge named Mechnikov, whose dying his mother later recounted to the writer. Konstantina Nikolaidi's adaptation returns to Theatro Alkmini on Friday 16 October 2026 at 18:00, reopening for its seventh year after a season away.
Two actors, Thanasis Kourlambas and Giorgos Galitis, carry every role between them, which keeps the focus where Tolstoy put it — on one man's reckoning rather than the crowd around him.
If you want spectacle or comic relief, this is a bare, unflinching hour. But if you want the story that made mortality impossible to look away from on the page, Nikolaidi stages it whole.
Alkmini is in Petralona, step-free and wheelchair accessible; Fridays only, curtain at 18:00. Tickets €14–€20 through more.com.
