The doorbell rings and nobody is at the door; it rings again. Eugène Ionesco's Η φαλακρή τραγουδίστρια — the anti-play that premiered in 1950 to Paris walkouts — comes to Theatro Alkmini in Petralona from 20 to 23 July 2026, in Marilena Katranidou's staging, selected for the SYSTEMA programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival after its winter run at Theatro Amalia.

Two English couples, a maid and a fire chief trade impeccable small talk until logic starts manufacturing its own nonsense. Katranidou — her version subtitled "It happens sometimes" — reads Ionesco as a study of behavioural mechanisms, with a seven-member cast and a dramaturgy "riddled with traps."

If you need plot to hold onto, Ionesco removes the handrails. If you enjoy hearing polite conversation dismantled bolt by bolt, this is the founding machine.

Curtain shifts mid-run — 19:00 on 20 and 21 July, 21:00 on 22 and 23 July. Seventy-five minutes; tickets 20 EUR on more.com; the Alkminis 12 theatre is wheelchair accessible.
