Twenty-three performers, aged 21 to 55, line up at the front of the stage and present themselves to you — straightening a collar, fixing a smile, waiting to be chosen. This is Kontakthof, Pina Bausch's 1978 dance-theatre study of courtship, tenderness and small cruelties, now staged by an all-Greek company 37 years after the work first played the Herodion.

The revival carries unusual weight: it is the National Theatre's first collaboration with the Pina Bausch Foundation, under the direction of Josephine Ann Endicott, an original 1978 cast member, and Daphni Kokkinou. The 170-minute evening unfolds on the central stage of the historic Tsiller building.

If you want plot and resolution, this is not your night. But if you want bodies repeating the rituals of wanting and being wanted until they ache, Kontakthof earns every minute.

Performances run Friday and Saturday at 20:00, Sunday and Wednesday at 18:00, from 09 October 2026. Tickets 5 to 25 EUR.
