Cool Mood is a sextet built around the quiet end of jazz — the West Coast lineage of Chet Baker, Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan, where restraint says more than volume. The band reworks jazz standards through its own orchestrations, carrying a blues-and-ethnic undertow rather than straight bebop fire.
It lands at Poetry Bar, a small jazz-and-blues room off Soultani Street, a short walk from Omonia, where the stage sits close enough to read the players' cues. Saturday nights here run on the music, not the bar.
If you want a loud night out, look elsewhere. But if you want cool-school phrasing up close, Cool Mood takes the room for one night, 6 June.
